Fishery View Improvement of Time Series Line Chart Visualization of Fishery Data CPSC 533C Course Project Final Report

Time series datasets are widely used in many areas. When the size of a dataset grows large or the number of datasets increases, it becomes difficult for a human to observe the structure of a dataset or to understand the underlying relationships. In this report, we present an interactive visualization tool called Fishery View to display and interact with fish population data obtained from the UBC Fishery Department. Using Fishery View, we are able to efficiently find related marine species of a specific fish, evaluate the impact of fishing strategy on fish population, and cluster fish species according to similar trends in population change. Our experimental results show that the fish population data is well organized and visualized in Fishery View.
